Alfred Allen Baker, age 88, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton.
He was born May 9, 1931 to William and Sarah (Krueger) Baker in Oakes, ND. Al worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at the iron ore mine in Ely, MN and was a business owner. In the early years of his life, Alfred worked on the farm with his Dad and brothers.
In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After serving in the U.S. Army, Al married the love of his life, Ardeen, on February 7, 1955. They moved to Ely, MN in 1956 where he and Ardeen raised their family.
Alfred was the owner of a small snowmobile business and also A. Baker and Son Construction. He was always busy in his shop. In 1986 they became “Winter Snowbirds” and spent their winters in Texas. He and his wife retired in Graceville, MN. In 2016 Alfred moved to Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, MN.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife Ardeen; son Jeffrey; parents William and Sarah Baker; brothers Wesley, Wayne and Ernest; and sisters Ethel and Florence.
Survivors include: two daughters Deborah Manske (Todd) and Doreen Rauch (Bill); sister Shirley Marohl; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-Law Janet Baker and Mavis Stibal.
No funeral services will be held at this time. Interment will be held at a later date in Ely, MN.
