After attending Moorhead Teachers College and earning her Normal teaching degree in 1934, Alice taught school in Traverse County for seven years, of which five years were at District 49 southeast of Dumont. On June 1, 1941, she married Alvin Vollmers and they had three children. Alice and Alvin farmed in Monson Township until their retirement in 1980 when they moved to Wheaton. Alice was adventuresome throughout her live. She displayed this spirit through her traveling with her husband Alvin, her family, and her dear friend Mae Winter. In addition to numerous trips throughout the US, her international destinations included three trips to Sweden, and trips to Australia and New Zealand, the Holy Land, and Europe. She enjoyed meeting people and she was a gracious hostess who loved preparing and serving meals to entertain her family and friends. Throughout her life, she was a teacher at heart. In addition, Alice worked on the Monson Township Charity drive, was a member of Bethlehem Covenant Church, Bethlehem Covenants Women, Farmers Union, the Swedish Institute, Lions Club, Wheaton Library Club, Homemakers Association, Minnesota Hearing Association, and the Democratic Party. During the last 65 years of her life, she suffered from a severe hearing loss. However, her pioneering spirit was demonstrated as she studied lip reading and had a cochlear implant.
