Amy Orrinne (Rostvet) Paulson, daughter of Olaus and Minnie Rostvet, was born in Silvesta Township, North Dakota on November 30, 1938. She resided there until the fourth grade after which her family moved to Adams, ND. Amy was active in choir, band, basketball, track, and she graduated from Adams High School in 1958. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College and started teaching near Adams. She finished her teaching career at Neche, ND in 1962.
Amy married Allen Paulson at Mountain Lutheran Church on June 16, 1962 in Adams. The newlyweds moved around the tri-state area until they settled in Herman, Minnesota in 1972, where they bought a home and Allen acquired the position of manager and draftsman at the local lumber yard. Amy decided to selflessly sacrifice her career as teacher to fully devout her time to educating and nurturing her five beloved boys. She took every opportunity to develop them whether it was through trips to the library or using a bookmobile service. She was also active in the community by being a part of the boy scouts, booster club, church choir, PTA, and teaching Sunday school at Bethel Lutheran Church.
The Paulson family would then temporarily move to Brandon, South Dakota before moving permanently to Sioux Falls, SD. While there, Amy would help support the family by working as a housekeeper for Best Western, Arena Motel, and Holiday Inn. In her free time she enjoyed finding “treasures” at local thrift stores to give to her boys and grandchildren, and she had a passion for what she called “balance and beauty”—making and improving the appearance of things where she could. Throughout her life, she went out of her way to travel to concerts, graduations, events, recitals and family activities to support and encourage her boys and entire family. Amy will be remembered for leaving a legacy of selflessly giving herself to being a blessing in the lives of others.
Amy is survived by four sons: David (Vanessa) Paulson of Sioux Falls, SD; Kevin Paulson of Valley City, ND; Michael (Tracy) Paulson of Valley City, ND; and Brian Paulson of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren: Hannah, Sarah, Elisabeth, Noah, Josiah (Michael), Shannelle (Brian), Jeremiah, Keziah, and Miriam (David); four brothers: Bert (Jackie) Rostvet of Ayr, NE; James (Ardith) Rostvet of Ramona, CA; Roger (Dawn) Rostvet of Bismarck, ND; and Conrad Rostvet of Park River, ND; two sisters: Marilyn Helgeson of Park River, ND; and Shirley French of Park River, ND; sister-in-law Marie Paulson of La Crescent, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
