Amy was born on February 23, 1917 just outside of Norcross, MN to parents Charlie and Mathilda (Engstrom) Borgeson. Amy's parents emigrated from Sweden in the late 19th century. Amy was the fourth child in a family of five. She and her siblings grew up on the family farm in rural Norcross and attended Corndale School through the eighth grade. Amy was born into a very musically gifted family and thus became very talented herself. Amy has been able to "play by ear" since the early age of four when she first taught herself to play "Yellow Rose of Texas" after listening to her Dad play it often. Over the years, she taught herself to play multiple instruments including the organ, piano, accordion, guitar, violin, and banjo. Amy loved music, her favorite to play and listen to being Swedish waltzes. She and her family formed the Borgeson Orchestra in the 1930's, and played often at dances at the Norcross Hall and surrounding town halls. Amy married Albert ("Tuffy") Reckner on February 13th, 1946. Amy and Tuffy made their home on a farm site less than two miles from her parent's farm near Norcross, MN. They raised chickens, pigs, sheep and cattle during their years on the farm. Amy spent numerous hours maintaining their beautiful large farm yard. Amy looked forward to Spring every year. She enjoyed gardening immensely and took care of her gardens and trees as if they were her children, giving them an abundance of love and attention. After a busy summer on the farm, Amy and Tuffy enjoyed 13 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona with many friends from in and around the Herman-Norcross area. In 2000, Amy and Tuffy left the farm and built a new home in Herman, MN. They had been married 57 years when Tuffy passed away in May, 2003. Amy has been able to reside in their home in Herman up until her death at the age of ninety six. Amy died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Coteau Des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD. Amy was a long time member of the Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church. Amy was preceded in death by her husband Albert (Tuffy) Reckner; her parents, Charles and Mathilda (Engstrom) Borgeson; brothers, Elver, Vicky, and Reuben Borgeson; one sister, Leona Borgeson; sister in law, Margaret (Johnson) Borgeson; brother in law, LeRoy Reckner; nephews, Joel Reckner, and Jon Reckner. She is survived by her nieces, Faye (Denny) Vipond of Herman, Carol (Bob) Danzeisen of Herman; nephews, Dale (Geline) Borgeson of Oakland, CA, Jim Reckner of Fargo; sister in law Shirley Reckner of Wheaton; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
