Anita McCabe

Anita Marie (Torbert) McCabe passed away peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Wheaton Community Hospital in Wheaton, MN at the age of 66 years after a long, yet courageous battle with respiratory illness. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Graceville Community Building in Graceville, MN. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm with a prayer service to follow at 7:00. The Family asks that all who attend come dressed casually, as that is what Anita would have wanted. Anita was born April 28, 1941 to Rosella and Burdette Torbert in Dawson, MN. She was raised in Waseca along with her three brothers. Anita attended Waseca schools until she graduated in 1959. After graduation Anita worked various jobs, mostly retail, as well as owning her own clothing store. In the mid to late 60s she met and Married Earl Eugene McCabe. Together they had two daughters, Gwendolyn and Angelyn. While Earl and Anita were married they owned a smoke shop. After their divorce she became a single mother, who worked hard all her life. Anita made MN her life long home living in many small communities throughout the years. Anita always surrounded herself with friends, and loved to talk to them. Over the years she has made a great number of friendships. She was an absolute people person; it seemed that everyone who met her was instantly drawn to her smile, laughter, and charm. Her hobbies included sewing, and crocheting. She would make clothes for her youngest daughter and herself, as well as afghans. In recent years she had become very fond of watching reality shows such as Survivor and American Idol. She will be greatly missed by all. Anita is survived by daughters Gwendolyn McCabe of Huachuca City, AZ and Angelyn (husband Luke) Schmitz of Graceville, MN; Grandchildren Amber, DeAnna, Monica, and Jonathon of AZ, and Trace of Graceville; Brothers James Torbert of Port Charlotte, FL; Richard (Isabel) Torbert of Laurel, MT; and Gerald (Sandra) Torbert of Cyrus, MN along with her Aunt Nori and Uncle Deryl Torbert of Reidsville, NC. She is preceded in death by her Father and most recently her Mother who passed away on 2/2/2008, as well as a brother who passed at birth.
