Anna Olga Rinas DuBois, born at home on June 15, 1929, was the seventh child born to Adolph and Emma, who immigrated to America from Poland. Manual labor on the farm was a way of life for the entire family. One thing she was taught was the value of knowledge—her mother would say that was the one thing that couldn’t be taken away from you. She completed her early classes in a one room schoolhouse, “Goodwill #2”. It was not uncommon to move to town for high school, which she and her siblings did. In 1948, after graduating from Sisseton High School, her next move was to Mitchell, South Dakota to attend nurse training at Dakota Wesleyan as it is known today. In 1952, Ann and Robert Chester DuBois were joined in marriage. Their first daughter, Betsy, was born in 1955, followed by Kim in 1958, and Robert Chester, Jr. in 1962. Time passed and life ran its course, but no matter where life took Ann and the rest of her family, the farm always served as their foundation. Today, Ann and Robert are re-united again in a peaceful plot with a view. Someday their children will be laid to rest by their side, in keeping with Ann’s wish to always have her family close by.
