Ardith Ritzschke was born July 6, 1927 to Lorena Schwartz and Edward Bailey in Madison, Wisconsin. The couple divorced and Lorena moved to Barrett, Minnesota. Ardith attended country school and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Lorena married James Jones Jr. on September 26, 1935. The couple lived on a farm south of Barrett, Minnesota. On February 13, 1944 Ardith married Perry Ritzschke. To this union eight children were born, four girls and four boys. The couple lived in Herman and Donnelly, Minnesota. Ardith worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant in Wheaton, Morris, Hoffman and Barrett, Minnesota. Ardith later cleaned houses and was always helping her neighbors until her health failed. Ardith entered the Barrett Care Center in August 15, 2014 where she lived until her death on December 22, 2018.
Ardith is survived by her children: Karen (Dale) Boothby of Wheaton, MN; Carolyn (Larry) Smith of Dillard, OR; Robert (Jean) Ritzschke of Alberta, MN; DeWayne (Deanna Heuer) Ritzschke of Donnelly, MN; Donald (Jackie) Ritzschke of Denton, TX; and Gary "Pinkie" (Janet Hagen) Ritzschke of Kensington, MN; son-in-law William Kruize Jr. of Fergus Falls, MN; sister Clara Jones Germundson of Blaine, MN; sister-in-law Iva Lou Jones of Minneapolis, MN; seventeen grandchildren: Ricky (Janet) Scherer, Darwin (Tracee) Scherer, Carisia Ellingson, Brenda (John) Higday, Karla Boatman, Kimberly (Wade) McGraw, Kelly (Jason) Kraft, Kevin (Michelle) Kruize, Kasie (Ryan) Schaefer, Krista (Daniel) Wolff, Melissa Ritzschke, Stacey (Troy) Christians, Jessie (John) Brinkman, Scott (Rita) Ritzschke, Daniel (Robin) Nefzger, and Terrance "TJ" Nefzger; thirty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and two nieces and two nephews.
Ardith was preceded in death by her husband Perry (1997); biological father Edward Bailey; mother Lorena (Schwartz) Jones; stepfather James Jones Jr.; daughter Barbara Kruize; grandson Kory Kruize; great-grandson Daniel Scherer; great-granddaughter Kenzie Kraft; brother Kenneth Bailey Jones; and brother-in-law Roger Germundson.
A Private Family Visitation for Ardith Ritzschke will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Bainbridge Funeral Chapel in Herman, Minnesota. Pallbearers will be Ardith's grandsons: Ricky Scherer, Darwin Scherer, Scott Ritzschke, Kevin Kruize, Daniel Nefzger and Terrance "TJ" Nefzger. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ardith's granddaughters: Carisia Ellingson, Brenda Higday, Karla Boatman, Kimberly McGraw, Kelly Kraft, Krista Wolff, Kasie Schaefer, Melissa Ritzschke, Stacey Christians and Jessie Brinkman. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Herman.
