Arlene Dobbs, age 97, of Browns Valley, MN passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Coteau des Prairie Hospital in Sisseton, SD surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services will be held at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley on December 2, 2023, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be Friday December 1, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons Brad Amundson, Joel Prueher, Devan Dobbs, Tyler Thue, Gage Dobbs, and Dylan Goodhart.
Arlene was born on October 12, 1926, in Summit, SD to Sam and Edna (Crooks) Ward. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith. Arlene attended high school in Browns Valley and graduated in 1944.
Arlene married her high school sweetheart, Donald Dobbs, on November 14, 1946, in the Browns Valley Presbyterian Church. They made their home on the Charles Dobbs’ homestead north of Browns Valley. In 1967, they bought the Owens’ homestead on the Minnesota side of Lake Traverse. Arlene and Donald owned and operated the school buses in Browns Valley for 40 years. Arlene also worked at Ike’s Chicken Shack from 1973-1996.
Arlene was a life-long member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church of Browns Valley. She was also involved in Eastern Star, LaFemme Club, Red Hats, Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah’s, UMPW, Bowling League, Community Choir, and Church Choir. Arlene could never say no; she was a volunteer until the age of 95.
Arlene is survived by her children: son-in-law, Charles "Dick" (Veronica Pifko) Amundson of Moorhead, MN, Gary Dobbs, Darrell (Paula Pistorius) Dobbs, Dale Dobbs, & Lori (Bob) Goodhart all of Browns Valley, MN; Don “Denny” (Beth) Dobbs of Sioux Falls, SD; Greg (Steph) Dobbs of Castlewood, SD, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald Dobbs, daughter Linda Amundson, & granddaughters Heidi Dobbs Serocki and Julie Dobbs, and Special Friend Delwin Pettis.
