Arvid, Johnson, age 80, of Herman, Minnesota passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo North Dakota.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, Minnesota with Rev. Cheryl Berg officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman.
Arvid was born May 16, 1943 in Herman Minnesota to David and Tillie (Hedstrom) Johnson. He graduated high school in Herman in 1961. Arvid and his parents Tillie and David expanded their farm during Arvid’s life. Arvid was the third generation on this farm. Anton and Ida Johnson purchased the land in 1917 and built the homestead. They passed the farm onto David and Tillie. Arvid inherited the land and felt a strong responsibility for his legacy. They raised beef cattle, grew small grains, and more recently, high quality alfalfa on their farm
Herman was Arvid’s home for his entire life. However, he traveled many places. After high school, he worked in Florida and Hawaii with friends. He traveled around the state with his father riding in horse shows with the Red Ryder horse club and winning awards at the Minnesota State Fair. Horses were a daily part of Arvid’s life. He was a horseman his whole life, and excelled in western riding, equestrian events and training his horses for race tracks throughout the Midwest.
Arvid was a member of community agricultural organizations and served on several local boards.
He is survived by: his daughter Tori Showalter; his two granddaughters: Nichole and Sophia. four sisters: Darlene (Don) Olson, LaVonne (Al) Watson, Pat (Dave) Grimsrud and Mayva Winburn; his long time companion: Paula Perdoni; his ex-wife Donna and Donna’s daughter, Laura DeFoe; his many nephews and nieces; his two horses and many cats and peacocks; and importantly, he is survived by his large network of friends and acquaintances that enriched his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be given to Bethel Lutheran Church or Lakeside Cemetery.Saturday, April 27, 2024
