Funeral Service for Barbara Jean Flakker, age 72, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Visitation will be held Monday morning one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wheaton. Barb was born on July 28, 1941 in Nashua, MN to Benard & Regina (Tenneyson) Bylund. She graduated from Tintah High School in 1959. During her high school career she enjoyed English and playing the Clarinet. On December 2, 1961 Barb was married to the love of her life, Miles Flakker. To this union they were gifted with two children, David Miles and Kari Lyn. After moving to Wheaton Barb enjoyed working at Scheel's Hardware and doing miscellaneous bookeeping jobs. After the progression of her MS made it difficult to work she loved to be home taking care of her family and showing off her artistic talents. She enjoyed baking, drawing, cooking, crossword puzzles, sewing and corresponding with friends and family via mail. In her spare time Barb could be found watching her stories, the Vikings, playing cards, listening to the Statler Brothers or Elvis. Barb moved into the Traverse Care Center in 1990 after it became too challenging for her to stay at home. While living there Barb was cared for by many amazing staff members that grew to become her extended family. She thoroughly enjoyed giving the staff a hard time and most of her favorites were given a nickname (Tightwad, Sister Pat, Herman, Saint Paul, and many more). One of Barb's greatest joys was visits from family, friends and her grandchildren. She loved Buicks, cats, fireworks, Coca-a-Cola, going outside for a cigarette, liver, fresh baked bread and anything chocolate. Barbara passed away July 3, 2014 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Barbara is survived by two children: David (Julie) Flakker of Fargo, North Dakota and Kari (John) Otto of Wheaton; five grandchildren: Megan (Chris) Kraft of Fargo; Taylor Flakker of Fargo; and Madison, Kaitlyn, and Aidyn Otto of Wheaton; one brother Bernard Bylund of Blaine, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and her "extended family" at the Traverse Care Center. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Miles; parents Benard and Regina Bylund; sister Beverly; and brothers Dennis and Bob.
