Funeral Service for Bernard Darrell Fleischfresser, 65, of Barrett, Minnesota will be held Thursday, May 3, 2007, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman, Minnesota with Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 2 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Bernard Darrell Fleischfresser was born on March 28, 1942 in Herman, Minnesota to Ernest August and Alice Ruth (Hicks) Fleischfresser. He attended school in Herman before enlisting in the United States Army on July 14, 1959, where he served until July 31, 1979. He achieved the Rank at retirement of E-6 (Staff Sergeant). Bernard served two tours in Vietnam from July 25, 1967, to Mar 2, 1969. For his service Bernard was awarded the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross W/Palm, Combat Infantry Badge, Meritorious Unit Citation. Bernard also served in Germany as well as numerous stateside assignments. After retiring from the military, Bernard moved back to the Morris area. Bernard later purchased a home in Barrett, Minnesota where he resided until his death. Bernard was a member of the Morris American Legion, loved to read-especially westerns, and was an excellent cook. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was very compassionate and loved spending time with family and friends. He will be sorely missed. Bernard Fleischfresser was survived by children: Karen Fleischfresser of Morris, MN, Denise (Dan) Mies of Avon, MN, Steven (Tracy) Fleischfresser of Cold Spring, MN, and Ursula (Fleischfresser) Sanchez of Morris, Minnesota, Ex-Wife: Millie of Morris, Minnesota, Mother: Alice Ruth Fleischfresser of Hoffman, MN, Brothers: Ken (Roxan) of Shawnee, OK, Melvin and friend Barb Johnson of Minneapolis, Roger (Ann) of Blaine, MN, Ron (Cathy) of Minneapolis, Sisters: Sharon (Jim) Frisch of Wheaton, Marjorie Williams of Grand Forks, North Dakota, LaVonne (Darrel) Frier of Alexandria, MN, and Donna (Michael) Dumas of Dovray, MN, Two Granddaughters: Nicole (Brandon) Benson of St. Cloud, MN, and Elise Fleischfresser of Cold Spring, MN, Two Great-Grandchildren: Chase & Amaiya Benson of St. Cloud, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by his son: Rodney Norman Fleischfresser, father: Ernest Fleischfresser, brothers: Richard and Eldred, and sister: Jean Rae.
