Bernard Volker

Funeral Service for Bernard Volker, 90, of Herman, Minnesota will be held Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, Minnesota with Pastor Jennifer Rose officiating. Organist will be Olivia Richards with special music provided by Jeanne Sperr. Pallbearers will be Bernards Grandsons: Tom Volker, Bradley Volker, Brian Volker, Eric Volker, Michael Volker, Tony Volker, Kyle Volker, Dustin Sperr and Evan Carlson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bernards Granddaughters: Rebecca Pruse, Jennifer Selander, Shelley Volker, Ronda Blume, Glynis Volker, Olivia Volker and Ashley Carlson. Visitation will be Thursday evening, May 5th from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue Friday morning, one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery with Bernards grandson Pastor Tom Volker officiating. Bernard Ernest Volker was born July 15, 1920 to William and Zena (DeVries) Volker in rural Delaware Township, Grant County, Minnesota. Bernard was baptized on May 21, 1927 and confirmed August 4, 1935 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. He attended Grant County Country School District #19, graduating on June 30, 1934 after completing the 8th grade. After school he farmed with his dad and twin brother, Willard. On January 5, 1944, Bernard was united in marriage to Lenora Kjorness. In 1950, the couple bought the Allert and Minnie DeVries farm. On this dairy farm Bernard and Lenora raised their family of six children. Bernard served on the Herman and Hoffman Co-op Creamery Board. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family, woodworking and reminiscing. He will be dearly missed by his loving family. Bernard passed away May 2, 2011 at the Rolling Hills Residence in Barrett, Minnesota. Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lenora of Herman, MN, five children: Gary (Linda) Volker of Herman, MN, Dennis (JoAnn) Volker of Morris, MN, Richard Volker of Alexandria, MN, Ronald (Sherry) Volker of Herman, MN and Joan (Rick) Carlson of Waconia, MN, sixteen grandchildren: Tom (Verna) Volker of Minneapolis, MN, Rebecca Pruse of Minnetonka, MN, Jennifer (John) Selander of St. Louis Park, MN, Shelley Volker of Panama City Beach, FL, Brian Volker of Alexandria, MN, Bradley (Rachael) Volker of Parkers Prairie, MN, Eric Volker of Alexandria, MN, Ronda (Kevin) Blume of Herman, MN, Michael (Jessica) Volker of Herman, MN, Tony and Kyle Volker of Herman, MN, Dustin Sperr of LaCrosse, WI, Glynis Volker of Fargo, ND, Olivia Volker of Hoffman, MN, Ashley Carlson and Evan Carlson of Waconia, MN, and twelve great-grandchildren. Bernard was also survived by three brothers-in-law: Dale Allen, Raymond (Eunice) Kjorness, and Donald Moldenhauer, four sisters-in-law: Sylvia Volker, Linda Rarer, Mildred Schuman and Dorothy Fabian. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Volker, two sisters: Sophie Berger and Betty Allen, three brothers: Ervin Volker, Lloyd Volker and twin brother, Willard Volker.
