Betty Anne Walz was born February 3, 1927 in Graceville, MN to Max and Irene (Sieber) Walz. Betty was the oldest of six children and she grew up in Collis, MN. Betty was set up on a blind date and met the love of her life Gordon Jacobs. They dated, fell in love, and were married on Wednesday, May 28, 1947.
After a honeymoon trip to the west coast, Betty and Gordon settled down in between Dumont and Wheaton and farmed with Gordon’s father Frank and his brother Orrin. While living on the farm, Betty and Gordon were blessed with six children; from this came twenty-two grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Betty took great pride in her accomplishments throughout her life. Betty taught Sunday School for over sixty years at St. John Lutheran Church in Dumont, MN. Many children got their start in faith with Betty and they all remember her. She loved all of the kids that passed through her class, but it would tickle her inside when Dick Breamer (Minnesota Twins announcer) would mention her during his broadcast. Betty took great pride in reporting the Dumont News for over forty years.
Betty was very proud of the fact that she was able to give seventeen gallons of blood in her lifetime during blood drives. She felt good about helping people through blood donation and was sad when she no longer could. Betty had a passion for sewing. Over the years she made numerous quilts and they are a treasure that everyone was pleased to be given. Betty loved her family and it just keeps growing.
Betty is survived by two daughters: Kaye (Jeff) Norton and Tammie (Terry) Finke; one son Bradley (Joetta) Jacobs; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and sons-in-law: Don Johnson and Scott Zastrow.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Gordon; daughters: Deborah Zastrow and Nancy Johnson; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Beverly Jacobs; grandson Ryan Jacobs; parents Max and Irene Walz; and parents-in-law Frank and Hilda Jacobs.
