Funeral Service for Christina Hernvall, 96, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Howard Jording officiating. Pallbearers will be Walter Schmidtke, Lyle Lupkes, Eugene Borsheim, Brett Lupkes, Randy Olson & James Lupkes. Visitation will be held from noon until service time on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wheaton. The Ranney Funeral Home of Wheaton, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements. Christina Lupkes was born on September 26, 1909 in Fern, Iowa to George and Jennie (Berkhoff) Lupkes. The family moved to Dike, Iowa where they lived until moving to Wheaton, Minnesota in 1928 when Christina was 18. Shortly after moving to Wheaton Christina caught a 19 pound northern fish on Lake Traverse. Christina was united in marriage to Wendell Hernvall on February 8, 1942 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. They spent a few years in Lubbock, Texas during World War II where Wendell was stationed. Christina was a good housekeeper and always had a garden. Christina loved all her nieces and nephews, they could do no wrong in her eyes. Christina taught Sunday school for 40+ years at St. John Church and always had treats for the kids after class. Christina passed away on July 6, 2006 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Christina is survived by eight brothers & sisters: Tillie Koci of Wheaton, Jeanette Olson of Wheaton, Irene Kaul of Rochester, Minnesota, Frances (Earl) Borsheim of Wheaton, Mary (Fritz) Mueller of Madison, Minnesota, George (Dorothy) Lupkes of Wheaton, Oscar (Merlita) Lupkes of Wheaton, and Elmer (Dorothy) Lupkes of Wheaton. Christina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Fred Lupkes & Ole Lupkes, and sister: Hilka Schmidtke.
