Connie Swedlund, age 83, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Countryside Inn in Rosholt, South Dakota.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 3rd from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a 4:30 p.m. Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at Bethlehem Covenant Church. Visitation will continue Monday morning one hour prior to service time at the church.
Burial will be in West Lakeside Cemetery, rural Wheaton. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: John (Claire) Cook, Anthony (Emma) Cook, Michael Klugman, Tyler (Alyssa) Klugman, and Tori (Chase) Kohler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Connie's great-grandchildren and her co-workers at State Bank of Wheaton.
Connie Ann (Johnson) Swedlund was born in rural Rosholt, South Dakota on October 19, 1940 the fifth of seven children born to Waldo and Gladys (Halquist) Johnson. She was born at their farmstead and delivered by a neighbor, Emily Simonson. She was baptized on August 20, 1944, witnessed by her grandparents, Peter and Anna Halquist.
In 1949 the family moved to rural Lake Valley Township, of Wheaton, Minnesota on Mud Lake. Connie was confirmed on June 5, 1955 at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton, and in 1958 graduated from Wheaton High School.
After graduating from high school Connie worked as a bank teller at First State Bank of Wheaton, and later lived in the twin cities with friends for a time. On November 5, 1960 Connie married John Swedlund of Wheaton, Minnesota. To this union two daughters were born, Debra and Diedra. John and Connie settled on a farm in rural Monson Township of Wheaton, and later moved to rural Lake Valley Township, one mile west of Wheaton. They spent their years farming and running a trucking business. Connie was a bank teller at State Bank of Wheaton for forty years, retiring in 2006.
Connie’s favorite things were flower gardening, her fish pond, her maltese “Ellie”, and most of all spending time with family and friends. She loved the holidays, and her grandchildren were very important to her. She and John traveled to their sporting events and activities for many years and were very proud of all of them.
Connie is survived by her children Debra Cook and Diedra (Scott) Klugman; her grandchildren: John (Claire) Cook, Anthony (Emma) Cook, Michael Klugman, Tyler (Alyssa) Klugman and Tori (Chase) Kohler; great-grandchildren: Capri Cook, Quinn Cook, Auggie Cook, Milo Cook, Harper Klugman, Hayden Klugman and Cooper Kohler; brother Wally (Pauline) Johnson, sisters: Kay (Lyle) LeCuyer and Susan (Dean) Roman; brothers-in-law: Dan (Wendy) Swedlund and Dennis Groneberg.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents Waldo and Gladys Johnson; her husband John Swedlund; her brothers Jimmy Johnson and Lee Roger Johnson; sister Bonnie Sand; grandson Christopher Cook; and sister-in-law Sandra Groneberg.
The family would like to thank Countryside Inn of Rosholt, South Dakota for their compassionate care of our mom during these past 4 1/2 years.
