Funeral Service for Dale Rudolph Schmidt, age 82, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton with Rev. Tim Shekleton officiating. Honorary urn bearers will be Dale's nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Military Rites will be provided by the Merton Dale American Legion Post #80. Dale Rudolph Schmidt was born on October 17, 1930 in Graceville, Minnesota to Leslie and Alice (O'Donnell) Schmidt. He grew up in the Wheaton and Dumont area attending country school in District 18. He entered the United States Navy on August 28, 1950 and served until his honorable discharge on June 29, 1954. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Dale worked road construction and was a farm laborer for the majority of his life. He was a member of the Wheaton American Legion Post #80. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Dale passed away on July 23, 2013 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Dale is survived by six siblings: Joan Thoennes of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Kay Berghuis of Alexandria, Minnesota; Lucy Bruns of Wheaton; Leslie (Skip "Marg") Schmidt of Spring Lake Park, Minnesota; Mike (Connie) Schmidt of Wheaton; and Shiela Johnson of Wheaton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Alice (O'Donnell) Schmidt, and three brothers: Clayton, Jerry and Pete.
