Dean Stickland, age 72, of Beardsley, Minnesota formerly of Sisseton, South Dakota passed away June 1, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton with Rev. William Schruba officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, June 6th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.
Interment will be in Sisseton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean's grandchildren: Josh Stickland, Shawn Stickland, Cory Stickland, Krista Driscoll, Tyler Stickland, Trever Stickland, Kasey Stickland and Justin Ballhagen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Vellenga, Dean and Diane Lehrke, Stan and Yvonne Hippen, Dr. Stephen Schulte, Jack Murphy, Bob and Pam Williams, Skeeter and Sandy Elrite, Truman Nelson, Pete Schmidt, Roger Ceroll, Richard Curran, David and Carol Moshier, David and Barb Alinder, Monte Markeseth, Gary and Judy Gleason, Eddie Madsen, Michelle Anderson and all former and present employees of Deano's and One More Bar and Grill.
Dean Loren Stickland was born on May 27, 1944 in Marietta, Minnesota to Marvin and Lorraine (Seidsclag) Stickland. Dean and his family moved to Sisseton when Dean was four years old. Dean attended Sisseton High School and furthered his education at Canby Technical School in Canby, Minnesota earning a degree in Ag Business. He was united in marriage to June Dahl on June 16, 1962. To this union two sons were born. He worked for Van Waters and Rogers Chemical Company in St. Paul, Minnesota as a plant supervisor for nine years. When his father passed away in 1973, Dean returned to the area farming his family farm near Sisseton, South Dakota with his brother. He also purchased the Claire City Tavern. Dean built Deano's Steakhouse in 1985 and continued to farm. He was united in marriage to Marsha Pedersen on February 25, 1995. The couple operated Deano's until 2002 when their two oldest grandsons purchased the business. After selling the business Dean served as a Roberts County Commissioner for eight years. In March of 2012 Dean and Marsha along with a Dean's brother-in-law purchased One More Bar and Grill in Beardsley, Minnesota where Dean worked until his death.
Dean enjoyed golfing and served on the Valley View County Club board for several terms. He also enjoyed bowling and motorcycle rides with his sons and grandchildren.
Dean is survived by his wife Marsha Stickland of Beardsley, Minnesota; two sons: Patrick (Wendy) Stickland of Sisseton and James (Deanna) Stickland of Veblen, South Dakota; daughter Shelly Pedersen (Derrick Redday) of Sisseton; four sisters: Margie (Maynard) Azure of Tucson, Arizona; Sandra Stickland of Sisseton; Laura (Jim) Kimberly of Manassas, Virginia; and Annette (David) Brown of Big Lake, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Josh (Kellie) Stickland of Sisseton; Shawn (Samantha) Stickland of Sisseton; Cory Stickland of Claire City, South Dakota; Krista (Jake) Driscoll of Dilworth, Minnesota; Tyler Stickland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Trever Stickland of Veblen; and Kasey Stickland of Veblen; five great-grandsons: Carter, Jackson, Alex, Hardin and Hunter; one great-granddaughter: Ree Michelle Stickland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Larry, Robert and Gary; and one sister Bonnie Hogan.
