Doris Louise Rixe

Doris Louise Neumann Rixe was called by her gracious Lord to live with Him eternally on February 20, 2025. Doris was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was 101 years of age. Funeral Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dan Gifford Officiating. Lunch will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A. M. Doris’ interment will be held at some future date. In lieu of flowers please make your memorials to: LWML (Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League) or LWR (Lutheran World Relief).

Doris was born August 30, 1923, the fifth of seven children born to Frederick and Paulina Neumann in Monson Township. Doris was baptized on September 30, 1923, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Monson County, the Reverand Gust Merting officiated. On April 2, 1939 Doris was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. The Reverend Theodore Heine officiated. Doris’ Confirmation verse is: Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified. Do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” 

Doris attended rural school District 54, from the first through the seventh grade. During her 8th grade the family moved to town from the farm. Doris continued her education in the Wheaton school system graduating in 1942. Doris worked at Lindig’s Market prior to joining the U. S. Navy in July of 1944. She attended Basic Training at USS Hunter (Hunter College), New York City and then served at the U. S. Naval Yard in Portsmouth, VA. She was honorably discharged in September of 1945. After the Navy, Doris attended Miss Brown’s School of Business in Milwaukee, WI. Upon graduating in 1948 she returned to Wheaton and worked at the law firm of Houston, Hueber and Davison. 

On August 20, 1950 Doris married Donald (Bud) R. Rixe at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, MN with the Reverend E. C. Hallstein officiating. Nanc and Karen joined the family over the next couple of years. The family moved to Ortonville, MN where Donna and Fred were born. 

Upon their return to Wheaton, Doris found work at the ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service) office. In 1966 she went to work at St. John Lutheran Church and retired from her position in 1993. 

Doris loved her community and her church and participated in many volunteer activities. Her activities included, but were not limited to: teaching a variety of classes; sewing many, many quilts; was an active bowler; and worked at the Sr. Center in a variety of positions.

Even with all of her volunteer work, Doris found time to travel. She crisscrossed the United States and saw many of God’s wonders.

Those living in God’s grace and time are Doris’ daughters: Nanc J. (Daniel Braun) Rixe of Wheaton, Karen (Scott) Fiege of Lake City, and Donna (Paul) Morrison of Scottsdale; Doris’ grandchildren are: Kristyn, Paul, Andrew, Joann, Gabe and Michael; Doris has eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her: husband, Donald R. Rixe; son, Frederick G. Rixe; parents, Frederick & Paulina Neumann; brothers, Marvin and Ivan Neumann, and sisters, Mable Neumann, Arline Neumann Young, Florence Neumann Kassahn and Lucile Neumann Eggers.
