Dr. James Poole, age 86, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 at St. Peter, Minnesota.
Dr. James Robinson Poole was born on September 28, 1938, at Whitehall, Wisconsin. His parents were James Martin and Evelyn Norma (Robinson) Poole. He grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and learned to love fishing and hunting from boyhood.
He graduated from Kenosha’s Mary D. Bradford High School, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and U of W Medical School, interning at South St. Paul in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He met Inger Martinsson in Germany during a European vacation. They lived in Germany during his Army service there, and they had three children.
Next they moved to White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and he worked at South St. Paul Clinic. Soon they “followed the pheasants” to Wheaton, Minnesota, where Jim had a successful practice in Family Medicine, surgery and obstetrics.
When Inger returned to Sweden with the children, a divorce followed.
Jim met Linda Bertram, and they moved to their farm in 1977. They were blessed with five children: Ryan, Matt, Andy, Jake, and Lisa Rose, who were raised on the farm and who have thrived in their lives. On their farm they raised horses, then started “Riverside Ringnecks,” a shooting preserve. Jim’s love of deer- and pheasant-hunting continued. He and Linda raised a lot of pheasants! Jim loved caring for his patients and farming the land.
In 1991, Jim was separated from his family. He survived prostate cancer and open-heart surgery for mitral valve prolapse, but succumbed to colon cancer on March 10, 2025.
Survivors are: son Richard (Malin) Poole and Frida, David and, Lukas; daughter Tina Poole all in Sweden; sons: Ryan (Alicia) and Carter Poole; Matt (Emilee) and Ada Mae and Arlo Poole; Andrew Poole; Jacob Poole, PhD.; and daughter, Dr. Lisa Rose (Paul McKay, PhD). Sister Eva Poole-Gilson in California, and nieces Cathy and Christine in Florida. Linda (Bruce) Flaten, ex-wife.
Deceased relatives are: James and Norma Poole; siblings: Brother W. Mike Poole and sister Norma Verhulst; Cal and Dee Bertram, and daughter “Kitten” Katherine Poole (Sweden).
