Edgar Carl Johnson was born on November 3, 1923 in Big Stone County to Jentoft and Aasta (Olsen) Johannessen. He shared his birth with his twin sister Opal. One of thirteen children, Edgar worked and shared in fun and games on the family farm with his brothers and sisters.
He graduated from Graceville High School in 1943. Some of the high school activities he was involved in were baseball, ice skating and typing tests for the teachers. After high school he was busy with farming, trucking and hauling of products to the market and moving people and their furniture into and out of Wheaton.
Being active in the community was an important part of Edgar's activities as well. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization for fifty-two years as a parliamentarian. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Breckenridge Camp of the Gideons of Minnesota. Edgar was named the Traverse County Outstanding Senior in 2004. He was a real engineer and member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton. He enjoyed many duties such as assisting the merger of Hope and Good Shepherd Churches. He also was active in hauling materials for the building of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Edgar rarely missed the Thursday morning breakfast bible study with the men at the Corner Café.
Edgar also enjoyed traveling. In June of 2000 he met Judy Nord, another Norwegian, and they traveled to Norway to visit his and her relatives for the whole month of October. In June of 2005 they were married at the Sunday service with Pastor Tom Olson officiating. Edgar delighted in remodeling their farm house. As a result of his work, they were able to look out of the windows and keep track of the planting and harvesting of the crops, as well as travelers going by. Edgar lovingly cared for his mother until her death and also his older brother Villy until his death as well.
Edgar is survived by his wife Judy Nord-Johnson of Wheaton; his brothers: Clarence of Encino, California; and Wayne (Delores) of Beaver Bay, Minnesota; sister: Gwendlyn Rosdahl of Sun City West, Arizona; step-daughter Heather Nord of Benson, Minnesota; step-son Vernon Nord of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Villy; Roald (Marguerete); Floyd (Margaret); Myron (Althea); Roy (Dorothy); and Arnold; sisters: Orla (William) Lange; Korty (Oscar) Lange; and Opal (Reo) Knutson; and brother-in-law Harley Rosdahl.
