Funeral Service for Edward Steinhagen, 74, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Monday, March 28, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton, Minnesota with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Edwards family and friends . Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman, Minnesota at a later date. Visitation will be Monday from noon until service time at 2:00 P.M. at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton. Edward LeRoy Steinhagen was born on November 15, 1936 in Norcross, Minnesota to Ralph and Irene (Knutson) Steinhagen. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, Minnesota and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Norcross, Minnesota. He attended Norcross Grade School and later graduated from Morris High School in 1955. Edward enjoyed wrestling in high school, and was able to participate in the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament his senior year. After he graduated, he worked on the farm but continued assisting the high school wrestling team as an assistant coach. Edward entered the United States Army on October 3, 1957 where he served until July 2, 1959 when he received his honorable discharge. For his service he received the Expert Rifle and Good Conduct Medals. He returned home and continued farming with his father until his retirement. He moved into Wheaton to help his parents as their health became an issue. He was a member of the Wheaton American Legion and the Our Saviors and Bethel Lutheran Churchs of Norcross and Herman, Minnesota. Edward passed away on March 22, 2011 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Edward is survived by one sister, Clarice (Roy) Thompson of Libby, Montana, four nieces: Tina (David) Wiskerchen of Wendover, Nevada, Tammy (Micheal) Spillman of Spring Creek, Nevada, Pamela (Willard) Kern of Trenton, Michigan, and Susan (Michael) Buerkle of Dearborn, Michigan, and one nephew, William (LeeAnn) Steinhagen of Charlotte, North Carolina. Edward was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Ginger Steinhagen and his parents, Ralph and Irene Steinhagen.
