Elmyra Boom

Elmyra Mae Boom, age 89, of Battle Lake, MN, formerly of Wheaton, MN, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Battle Lake.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Organist will be Sara Lee Rinke with special music by Lynae Berger.

Visitation will be held at the church Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until service time.

Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wheaton at a later date. Honorary urn bearers will be Elmyra’s seven grandchildren.

Elmyra was born to Elmer and Marie (Petermann) Ahlsten on December 24, 1929 in Harlingen, Texas. She was baptized in Lyford, TX and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Monson Township. Elmyra spent her childhood on a farm near Wheaton. She graduated from Tintah High School and completed Normal Teacher Training in Wheaton, MN. She taught country school for four years in Taylor and Clifton Townships.

On October 7, 1949 Elmyra married Donald C. Boom at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home in rural Wheaton and farmed until they moved to their home on Eagle Lake. Elmyra was devoted to and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her ten great-grandchildren all knew her well and called her Grandma Great. Elmyra enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and crocheting. She made many quilts, including one for each of her three children and seven grandchildren. Elmyra was an excellent cook and baker. Her made from scratch angel food cakes were a favorite at family gatherings.

Elmyra is survived by her husband Donald of Battle Lake, MN; daughter LouAnn (Gary)Leslie of Battle Lake, MN; sons: Kenny (Pam) Boom and Kevin (Pat) Boom both of Wheaton, MN; grandchildren: Brian (Kellie) Lundquist of Chaska, MN; Jason (Ginger) Lundquist of Savage, MN; Whitney (Tyler) Jacobs of Fargo, ND; Taylor Boom of Wheaton; Carrie (Stacy) Ehlers of Wheaton; Katie (Steve) Gary of Graceville, MN; Kayla (Matt) Monson of Madison, MN: great-grandchildren: Jordan and Lily Lundquist, Ella Jacobs, Kelsey and Jarred Ehlers, Addie, Hannah and Jaxon Gary, Mya and Teagan Conroy; sisters: Helen (Willard) Wahl of Wheaton; Joann Monson of Moorhead, MN; and Carolyn (R.E.) Holtz of Rayville, MO; brothers-in-law: Robert Meyer of Battle Lake, MN; and Rolland Boom of Alexandria, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Elmyra was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Marie Ahlsten; brothers: Bob and Dean Ahlsten; and sister Norma Meyer.
