Evelyn Hills

Evelyn Hills, age 88, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Organist will be Sara Lee Rinke.

Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wheaton. Placing the Pall will be Evelyn's granddaughters: Chelsie Gibson, Lindsey Alves and Jaime Torgerson. Pallbearers will be Evelyn's grandsons: Chris Halling, Corey Hills, Shayne Hills, Jordon Gibson, Blaine Hills and Austin Hills. Honorary Pallbearers will be Evelyn's great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Evelyn was born on August 12, 1930 to Joseph and Sadie (Gepner) Frey. She grew up in the Norcross/Herman area and attended school there.

Evelyn married Adrian Hills on July 28, 1948 in Hoffman. They were blessed with six children. The family lived in Beardsley for many years, where Evelyn was a homemaker. As the children grew older and left home, she cooked at the Browns Valley Nursing Home for a time. She enjoyed gardening and canned the best dill pickles.

When Ade retired after working many years for the Burlington Northern Railroad, they made their home in Wheaton. When he passed away in 1998, they had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Family was very important to Evelyn. She loved having visitors, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing games, bingo, cards and looking at family photographs. Evelyn was a great cook and enjoyed feeding her guests. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Tears of laughter would roll when family members got together with Ev.

Evelyn moved into the Traverse Care Center in November of 2016. She enjoyed the staff, other residents and all the activities.

Evelyn is survived by five children: Gary (Peggy) Hills of Alexandria, MN; Cheryl Halling of Rochester, MN; Terri Torgerson of Huron, SD; Sue Gibson of Milbank, SD; and Jim (Jacqui) Hills of Morris, MN; nine grandchildren; ten and a half great-grandchildren; sisters: Paulette (Gene) Bakke of Alexandria, MN; and Mary Jo (Harold) Schwendemann of Starbuck, MN; one sister-in-law Florence Opitz of Aurora, MN; and numerous other family members and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Gerald Hills; sister Josephine Genet; and brother Virgil Frey.

Evelyn was well loved by family and friends and will always be missed. We will always remember our Mom for being thankful for what she had and making the best of what she had.
