Fern Nettie Koch, age 85, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Wheaton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Fr. Joe Vandeberg and Fr. Stanley Wieser Celebrants. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with special music provided by Dennis Johnson and the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Pallbearers will be Fern's grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fern's great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 18th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at Ave Maria Catholic Church. Visitation will continue Monday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Fern Nettie Armbruster was born July 27, 1929 near Tenney, Minnesota to Bernard and Georgia (Krevinghouse) Armbruster. Fern married Joseph M. Koch on January 9, 1947 in Dumont, Minnesota. To this union eleven children were born. Joseph passed away May 15, 2004. Fern worked at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton from September of 1971 until November of 1997. Fern enjoyed crossword puzzles, solitaire, puzzles, canning, gardening, camping and sewing. She enjoyed time spent with family especially cooking Sunday dinners; fried chicken, macaroni salad and tater tot hotdish. Fern enjoyed the company of her cat Bud, "her best friend and bed partner". Fern was a member of the Ave Maria Catholic Church and Wheaton American Legion Auxiliary. As Fern's health failed she was so happy to have the care of her "favorite nurse", her daughter-in-law Lisa Koch. Fern is survived by four daughters: Peggy (Douglas) Anderson of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Betty (Loran) Burdorf of Villard, Minnesota; Connie (Joe) Bartholome of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Susie (Steve) Tiseth of Grand Forks; six sons: Bernard (Karen) Koch of Breckenridge, Minnesota; Martin Koch of Wheaton; Mark Koch of Wheaton; Dennis Koch of Wheaton; Roy (Gretta) Koch of Osakis, Minnesota; and John (Lisa) Koch of Wheaton; two sisters: Doris Gilsdorf and Burnys Koch both of Graceville, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her husband Joseph M. Koch; son Joe Koch Jr.; grandson Tony Bartholome; parents Bernard and Georgia Armbruster; sisters: Joyce Beyer and June Bock; and brothers: Donald and Marvin Armbruster.
