Forrest Kochie of Wheaton, passed away early Tuesday morning at the Traverse Co. Care Center in Wheaton. Forrest was 85 years old. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Wheaton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday evening at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton. Forrest was born to Frank and Rose Kochie on April 14, 1921. He grew up in Walls Township near Lake Traverse and spent his life in Traverse County. Forrest graduated from Wheaton High School in1939. After high school he worked with his father on the family farm. He also drove truck; making regular runs between Wheaton and St. Paul. In June 19, 1942 he married Marlys Johnston and began a long and happy life together. After the wedding, he continued farming with his father. In 1944 Forrest and Marlys moved to Croke Township where they farmed and raised their family. Forrest quit farming, moved to Wheaton and began a new career as manager of the Dumont Oil Association in 1970. He enjoyed working with friends and acquaintances there; retiring in 1994.Forrest attended First Presbyterian Church. He served as a session member for many years. Forrest enjoyed retirement especially reading, the morning coffee get-togethers at local cafes and playing cards with friends. Forrest Kochie is survived by his wife: Marlys of Wheaton, 2 sons: Jack and Gail Kochie of Shorewood, MN, Jim and Jo Ann Kochie of Hokah, MN. and 1 daughter: Judy Browne of St. Paul, MN 7 grandchildren.
