Gary Magnuson

Memorial Service for Gary Mark Magnuson, age 52, of Gypsum, Colorado will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Lutheran Church in rural Rosholt, South Dakota with Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Organist will be Lana Sand, with special music provided by the Anderson quartet. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, near White Rock, South Dakota. Gary was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota on January 14, 1959 to Norman and Edelle (Bruce) Magnuson. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1977. Gary was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in White Rock, South Dakota. He was active in 4-H and Tri-Parish Hi-League. Garys love of skiing brought him to Colorado. He attended Colorado Mountain College in Leadville, Colorado. After working at various ski resorts, he owned and operated Magnuson Construction doing forms fitting and cement work in the Vail Valley until health issues forced him to quit. He was noted for the accuracy and quality of his work. Gary had many talents. He designed and painted custom motorcycle tanks and fenders, and rebuilt and painted cars and pickups. His sketches, photography and etched glass art is displayed in homes. In later years he did composing and playing songs. Other interests included reading, all forms of music, camping trips, skiing, riding snowmobile, motorcycling, fishing and spending time in the outdoors in the mountains. Gary made lasting friendships wherever he went. His generosity and kind spirit were felt by many. He loved his son very much and enjoyed spending time with him.whether camping in the mountains, working together or just talking. Gary passed away unexpectedly at Gypsum, Colorado on June 22, 2011. He will be greatly missed by his family and friend. Gary is survived by his son, Jordon of Colorado, Mother, Edelle Magnuson of Wheaton, Minnesota, Brother, Ardy Magnuson of Plymouth, Minnesota and nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his son, Brandon, Father, Norman Magnuson, Sister, Nicki Magnuson, Grandparents: William and Nettie Magnuson and Robert and Doris Bruce.
