Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. for both Gerald and Carol Allen at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Organist will be Sara Lee Rinke.
Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Military Rites will be provided by the Merton Dale American Legion Post #80. Pallbearers will be Gerald's family. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald's step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday morning one hour prior to service time at the church.
Gerald David Allen was born on July 19, 1931 in Gonvick, Minnesota to George and Hazel (Ask) Allen. He was baptized and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. He grew up and graduated from Gonvick High School in 1949. After graduation he started working for Nordin Cement Company installing city water systems.
He attended Bemidji College for a year before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1952. While in the Air Force he served in North Africa, Okinawa, and Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.
After his discharge he was employed by the State of Minnesota until 1960 when he attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota for printing. He was employed for newspapers in Gonvick, Wheaton, Minot, ND, Blackduck, MN, and Bagley, MN.
He married Carol Miller Schultz in Wheaton in 1963. He retired in 1993 at Bagley, Minnesota and moved to Wheaton in 1994.
Gerald is survived by three step-children: Jerry (Mary) Schultz of Wheaton; Connie (Mike) Schmidt of Wheaton; and Don (Donna) Schultz of Fairbault, Minnesota; seven step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Carol Allen, parents George and Hazel Allen, and step-grandson Brian Schultz.
