Jerry was born to Herman and Anna (DeGroote) Bartell in Herman, MN in a snowstorm on February 10, 1943. Jerry was a Herman High School graduate with the Class of 1961. He was married to Barb Schmadeke in Clarksville, Iowa on January 16, 1966. They made their home in Herman for twelve years, then moved to the farm for thirty-three years where they raised four children. Jerry enjoyed rural living and farming. They moved to their present home in Herman in 2011, but Jerry continued to make daily trips to the farm. Jerry enjoyed wildlife, especially feeding the pheasants. He looked forward to deer camp with his family and hunting buddies from the other camps “up north” each fall. He always enjoyed the family gatherings with the grandchildren. He liked joining in on a singalong of the old favorite hymns. In the past, he had served and retired from the Herman Fire Department, served on many church boards and had a private pilot’s license. God, family, friends and community were all very important to Jerry throughout his life.
Jerry is survived by his wife Barb of fifty-five years; his children: Tricia Bartell of Bismarck, ND; Todd (Steph) Bartell of Norcross, MN; Tiffany Enriquez (friend Brad Heitzman) of Sartell, MN; and Tyson (Jessica) Bartell of Herman, MN; grandchildren: Atlantah, Lexi & Parker Bartell; Dylan, Ethan & Aidan Enriquez; Ava and Harper Bartell; great grandson Jasiah Droen; brother Robert (Jan) Bartell of Madison, MN; sisters Janice O’Connor of Fargo, ND and Patti Olson of Kensington, MN; family friend Charles Enriquez of Sartell, MN.
