Glen Marse Hull, age 84, of Isabella, MN and Sisseton, SD, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023 at Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton with Pastor Knudsen officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
Burial will be at the Sisseton Cemetery later that day. Honorary urn bearers will be Tim Pearson, Kerry Cameron, Kevin Larson, Marshall Goodsell, Christopher Pearson, Marcus Carter, Bob Hull and Leo John Hull.
Glen Marse Hull was born on February 3, 1939 in Sisseton, SD, the son of Ralph and Gladys (Bue) Hull. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran in Sisseton.
Glen attended school in Sisseton, and worked at the family business until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1956. He served until 1960 and returned home to Sisseton, where he met and married Jeannette (Biederstedt) Hull.
The couple then moved to Chisholm, MN where Glen was the administrator of Buchanon Nursing Home. It was in Chisholm where they had two boys; Scott in 1967, and Chris in 1973. They returned to Sisseton in 1978 to run Tekakwitha Nursing Home. Glen was the assistant administrator and administrator for many years and continued to work for the Oblate Fathers until retirement.
Glen loved working on old cars. He would return them to pristine condition, only to sell them and start over.
He loved lawn care and would strive to make his yard look perfect. “Make it look like Yankee Stadium” was a term he took from Milton Cameron that was commonly heard. He achieved this task with the help of his beloved assistant, Sister Phyllis Faust.
Glen had a love for dogs, mainly labs, and had a few legendary ones. His black lab Missy was a mainstay at the nursing home.
Glen’s love of people and community was evident in his public service. He served several terms on the Sisseton School Board and the Roberts County Commission.
Most of all, Glen loved helping people. Whether it was a couple bucks until payday, a ride somewhere, sage advice, or just some time and an ear, he was there with a smile. Many a holiday evening was spent with an ex-classmate or friend because they had nowhere else to go.
“At the end of the day, you gotta be a good guy,” was his advice. Glen Hull checks that box.
Glen is survived by his son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Dana (Cochrane) of Isabella, Minnesota; his son, Chris and daughter-in-law, Melissa (Schofield), and granddaughter, Charlotte, of Pierre, South Dakota; his brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Colette of Sisseton; his sister, Cleo and brother-in-law, Kenny Reitan of Wahpeton, North Dakota; and several nieces.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Wendell and Kenny; and infant sister, Cleo Adaire.
A special thank you to Bobbi Jo Hamm, formerly of Edgewood and Holly Anderson and the staff of Tekakwitha Nursing Home for the extra mile.
