Gloria Louise Zetterstein was born December 26, 1928 in Los Angeles, California to Emma and Edmund Zetterstein. At the age of three, her family moved to Wheaton. Gloria attended Wheaton Area Schools graduating with the class of 1946. Gloria earned her teaching degree from Moorhead State University in 1948. She taught fifth grade in the Minnetonka School District for twenty-eight years, while living in Excelsior, MN. She also taught school in southern Minnesota for two years, prior to Minnetonka.
Her passions included traveling, ice skating, walking and of course working with her students. She particularly enjoyed their clay art projects. Gloria was asked to participate in the Ice Follies in 1946; however, she had signed a contract to begin her teaching degree. Gloria’s travels took her to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, Great Britain and Spain.
Gloria was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wheaton and served with the ladies of the church. She purchased her home in 1963 and lived there for fifty-six years before entering the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a spring in her step. Her message to her loved ones was, “Be happy!”
Gloria’s greatest joys were her students and her pets: Puppy and Honey.
Gloria is survived by a host of good friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Eddie.
Happiness is a journey, not a destination. Work like you don’t need money, love like you’ve never been hurt, and dance like no one’s watching.
