Gordon Jacobs

Gordon Jacobs, age 91, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 25th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Time of Sharing Service at the Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton. Visitation will continue Thursday morning one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Dumont, Minnesota at a later date. Pallbearers will be Gordon's children: Kaye Norton, Gary Jacobs, Bradley Jacobs, Nancy Jacobs and Tammie Finke. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gordon's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. Gordon Frank Louis Jacobs was born July 8, 1923 in Wheaton, MN to Frank and Hilda (Hartwig) Jacobs. He was baptized on August 12, 1923 and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Gordon attended school in District 45 through eighth grade and then completed two years at West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN. While there, he played football and worked at a dairy farm. Later he moved back to Traverse County and started his farming career with his father. During this time Gordon was set up on a blind date by his friend Leo Jorschumb. After their courtship, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Ann Walz on May 28, 1947. To this union six children were born. Gordon and Betty lived and farmed in between Dumont and Wheaton. Gordon also enjoyed custom combining in Kansas and Oklahoma. Gordon served on the church council and was a member of the Northern Raiders Saddle Club. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton and Dumont. He had a love for farming, horses, dogs, hunting, fishing and he loved attending sporting activities for the Warriors, Saints and Walleyes. Gordon loved going on trail rides, playing cards and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee. Gordon is survived by his wife Betty Jacobs of Wheaton; five children: Kaye (Jeff) Norton of Wheaton; Gary Jacobs of Dumont, Minnesota; Bradley (Joetta) Jacobs of Wheaton; Nancy (fiancé Don Johnson) of Valley Springs, South Dakota and Tammie (Terry) Finke of Valley Springs, South Dakota; son-in-law Scott Zastrow of Brandon, Minnesota; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister Glennis (Dallen) Peterson of Sunburg, Minnesota; one brother Dale (Norma) Jacobs of Dumont; one sister-in-law Audrey Jacobs of Wheaton; and one brother-in-law Wilbert (Mary) Rinke of Wheaton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Hilda (Hartwig) Jacobs; daughter Deborah Zastrow; grandson Ryan Jacobs; daughter-in-law Beverly Jacobs; sisters: Yvonne (Les) Rinke and Ilene Rinke; and brother Orrin Jacobs. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Luther Hour or the American Cancer Society.
