Grace Bruns

Funeral Service for Grace Margaret Bruns, 98, of Barrett, Minnesota will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ranney Funeral Chapel in Herman, Minnesota with Rev. Ted Graf officiating. Pallbearers will be Dean Olhoft, Angie Rodi, Blake Flaten, Terry Flodstrom, Anita Rodi Flodstrom & Larry Schmidt. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the Ranney Funeral Chapel in Herman. Grace Margaret Symens was born on January 6, 1910 in Lennox, South Dakota to Oda and Stena (Schmit) Symens. She grew up and attended school in Lennox. Grace was united in marriage on October 18, 1931 to Obbo Bruns at the Bruns Family farm,eight miles south of Willow Lake, South Dakota. Grace and Obbo moved to a farm northeast of Herman, Minnesota, near the Wendell Road, where they farmed many years. Obbo passed away in June of 1977. Not long after that Grace moved to Clinton, Minnesota to be near her daughter, Gesina. Grace later moved to Benson, Minnesota to live with her granddaughter, Diane and her husband Ron Rodi. In 1998, Grace moved into the Barrett Care Center to be closer to the rest of her family. Grace loved to sew and weave rugs. Grace was and avid gardener. She loved being a homemaker to Obbo and her family while living on the farm. Grace passed away Sunday, September 6, 2008 at the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, Minnesota. Grace is survived by granddaughter: Diane (Ron) Rodi of Benson, Minnesota, one sister; Ella Schmidt of Herman, Minnesota, two great-grandchildren: Angie & Anita, and two great-great-grandchildren: Blake & Libbey, many nieces and nephews.. Grace was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law: Gesina & Alvin Sharnikow, two brothers: Simon and George Symens, and one sister: Lena Symens.
