Gregory Alan Hoppe, age 70, of Graceville, Minnesota passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Essentia Health Hospital. Greg passed unexpectedly, but peacefully, with his wife Kathy by his side.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity-Mt. Olive Lutheran Church near Johnson, MN with Pastor Donald Main officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.
Greg was born on October 7, 1954 in Fargo, ND to Leonard and Marian Hoppe. Greg grew up and attended school in Graceville, MN, graduating with the class of 1973. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served until 1977; he continued serving in the Air Force Reserves until 1980. Upon his return from the Air Force, Greg began farming in Graceville.
In 1981, Greg met Kathy Janke at a dance at the Herman fair. He picked her up for their first date in the “orange pumpkin” and they were together from there on out. Greg and Kathy married on June 25, 1983 and made their home in rural Graceville where they raised their children, Chris and Sarah. Greg and Kathy did everything together and they were an example of what true love looks like.
Greg continued to work hard around the farm until the time of his passing. He also served as a supervisor on the Traverse Soil and Water Conservation District board for 38 years.
In March of 2018, Greg and Kathy bought a cabin on lake Le Homme Dieu in Alexandria, MN. Greg LOVED the cabin and all that went with it. He enjoyed the pontoon, deck, and sunshine with his family. He made many great friends at the lake and was a valued member of their community, the lawn there will not be the same without him!
Greg had many hobbies that he loved. Snowmobiling and hunting with his son, Chris; motorcycle rides with the Wednesday night gang, and being at the cabin with Sarah, Doug, and Jack. Greg loved sharing stories and jokes with the coffee crew at Cenex. He and Kathy could often be found watching Netflix and movies together on nights at home and looked forward to their trip to Florida each winter.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathy; their children, son Chris (Lacey) Hoppe of Moorhead, MN; daughter Sarah Nelson (Doug) of Elbow Lake, MN; grandchildren Jack Nelson and expectant baby Nelson; sisters Diana Seifert, Debby Stotesbery, Cheri Braun; brother Terry (Jean) Hoppe; sister-in-law Sherry (Dave) Aronson; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Marian Hoppe; parents-in-law: Vern and Norma Janke; brothers-in-law Larry Seifert, Steve Stotesbery, and Vic Braun.
Greg was taken from us all too soon. His family will find peace in knowing that he is with our Lord and was never sick or suffered. We hope you all remember Greg for the strong, giving, and passionate man that he was holding his memories, hugs, and love in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Graceville Ambulance Services.
