Harold "Kayo" Schaffer, age 91, of Alexandria, Minnesota passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Fr. Stanley Wieser Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with special music by the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir.
Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mary Gallagher, Christie Jeffrey, Jon O'Donnell, Bryan O'Donnell, Nick Shaffer, Brittany Klemisch, Tyler Schaffer and Alicia Schaffer. Military Rites will be provided by the Merton Dale American Legion Post #80.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday morning at the church.
Kayo was born November 21, 1926 in Graceville, Minnesota to John and Rose Schaffer. Kayo graduated from Wheaton High School, attended Moorhead State University and later served in the United States Navy. He married Ramona Opp in 1948. He farmed in Dumont, Minnesota and was a partner in Sturdevant's Auto Parts until his retirement. Kayo enjoyed hunting, gardening, studying the stock market and his grandchildren.
He is greatly missed by his wife of seventy years Ramona of Alexandria, MN; two children: Deborah O'Donnell of Red Wing, MN; and Mark (Gina West) Schaffer of Fargo, ND; daughter-in-law Aggie Schaffer of Rosemount, MN; eight grandchildren: Mary (Tom) Gallagher, Christie (Rick) Jeffrey, Jon O'Donnell, Bryan (Christine) O'Donnell, Nick (Kellie) Schaffer, Brittany (Kelly) Klemisch, Tyler Schaffer and Alicia Schaffer; and six great-grandchildren.
Kayo was preceded in death by his son Gregory "Digger" Schaffer, son-in-law Tom O'Donnell, sister Inez Hocks, and brother Erwin Schaffer.
