Helen Wahl

Funeral Services for Helen Elaine Wahl, age 90, of Wheaton, MN, will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating. Organist will be Cheryl Shekleton.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Urn bearers will be Helen’s grandchildren: Matthew, Chad, Cameron, Kerry, Alyssa, Andrew, Michael, Emily, Justin and Samantha. Honorary Urn bearers will be Helen’s great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.

Helen was born at the family farm in Tyler, ND, to Elmer and Marie (Petermann) Ahlsten, on May 31, 1931. Helen then moved to a farm near Wheaton, MN, where she lived with her family and was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Monson Township. She attended and graduated from Tintah High School. She enjoyed playing softball (1st base like her granddaughter). Following graduation, Helen worked at the Traverse County Nursing Home. Helen met Willard Wahl while they were each in a tractor in opposite fields working and that’s when their relationship blossomed. They attended many dances with their friends. They were married on June 29, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Monson Township. They moved eleven miles north of Wheaton where they farmed and raised their four children: Susan, Gary, Steve and Gale. Following retirement in 1994 Willard and Helen moved to Wheaton. Helen was a member of the Bethlehem Covenant Church where she served faithfully for many years, whether it was in the kitchen or sewing quilts for graduates. She was also a member of the Molly Bees Homemakers Club, enjoying many outings and activities with the ladies. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in activities. Helen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. Helen passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021 surrounded by her family at Sanford Hospital in Wheaton, MN.

Helen is survived by her husband Willard “Butch” of Wheaton; children: Susan (Mark) Ihrke of Plainview, MN; Gary (Twylah) Wahl of Yuma, AZ; Steve (Donna) Wahl of Wheaton, MN; and Gale (Brett) Lupkes of Wheaton, MN; grandchildren: Matthew Wahl of Sartell, MN; Chad (Amy) Klindworth of Wheaton, MN; Cameron (Katie) Wahl of Denver, IA; Kerry Wahl of Fargo, ND; Alyssa (Justin) McLellan of Peoria, AZ; Andrew (Danielle) Wahl of Springfield, OR; Michael Klindworth of Austin, TX; Emily Wahl of Moorhead, MN; Justin Lupkes of Moorhead, MN; and Samantha Lupkes of Moorhead, MN; great-grandchildren: Kaitlynn and Kianna Wahl; Ava and Connor Klindworth; Hunter and Gavin Wahl; Garrett Wahl; Megan and Allison Arjes; Cohen, Aili and Brody McLellan; and Benjamin and Evie Wahl; sisters: Joann Monson of Moorhead, MN; Carolyn (RE) Holtz of Rayville, MO; brother-in-law Robert Meyer of Battle Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Robert and Dean; sisters: Norma and Elmyra; and granddaughter Amber Wahl.
