Henrietta Johanson passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, Minnesota. She was 83 years old.
Henrietta Ann (Chalupnik) Johanson was born on June 28, 1941, in Graceville, MN, to Anton and Rosalia (Karsky) Chalupnik. She attended school at St. Mary’s Academy in Graceville. On June 24, 1958, Henrietta was united in marriage to Peyton Johanson at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. The couple made their home on a farm near Wheaton, MN, where they raised their eight children.
Henrietta had many talents and passions, but her love for cooking and baking was truly unmatched. She taught herself to cook and bake, always delighting her family and friends with an array of delicious treats. Henrietta was known for hosting wonderful family gatherings, especially during the holidays. Much to the enjoyment of her family, Henrietta also spent countless hours gardening and canning. In addition to her culinary skills, Henrietta was a talented crafter, creating beautiful embroidered Christmas stockings for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
The Wheaton community benefited from Henrietta’s involvement in various organizations and groups. She served as a leader in the 4-H program, was an enthusiastic member of the Clifton Women’s Club, and took on a leadership role as circle leader at Ave Maria Catholic Church. Henrietta also enjoyed being a part of the Red Hat Ladies and Bunco group, where she formed lasting friendships and shared many laughs with her fellow members.
Henrietta is survived by her eight children: Julie (Delbert) Hoffmann of Huron, SD; Janet (Dan Vipond) Koch of Wheaton; Douglas (Karla) Johanson of Bismarck, ND; Nancy (Keith) Budke of Wheaton; Bradley (Glenda) Johanson of Alexandria, MN; Kimberly (Scott) Hess of Sioux Falls, SD; Gregory (Denise) Johanson of Herscher, IL; and Amy (Jeffrey Bunte) Friday of Portland, OR; twenty-three grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren; brothers: George Chalupnik and Larry (Dagmar) Chalupnik; sisters: Rosemary Medbery and Mary Jane (Richard) Tschakert; sisters-in-law: Georgiann Chalupnik and Carol Chalupnik, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Peyton Johanson; parents Anton and Rosalia Chalupnik; sisters: Martha (Joe) Blake, Lillian (Herman) Koch, Dorothy (Richard) Fischer, Elsie Chalupnik in infancy, and Gladys (David) Steen; brothers: Anthony Chalupnik, Ludwig Chalupnik in infancy, Raymond (Betty) Chalupnik, and Donald Chalupnik; sister-in-law Andree Chalupnik.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Fr. Stanley Weiser Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with special music by Tressa Lanter and the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir. Visitation will be held Friday, July 19th from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery following the service.
