Ila Mae was born the first of eight children on a farm west of Wheaton on August 16, 1930 to Otto and Myrtle (Abraham) Hormann. She was baptized on September 7, 1930 and confirmed April 30, 1944. She attended a one room country school through eighth grade. After grade school Ila Mae attended West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN where she met the love of her life Ronald Hervey. They were married August 11, 1949 at St. John Parsonage in Wheaton by Rev. Ernest Hallstein. Special attendants at the wedding were Ila Mae’s siblings Roy and Lois.
The couple purchased a farm in Clifton Township in October of 1955 where they have resided the last sixty-four years. Ila enjoyed jig saw puzzles, sewing, cards, quilting, working with Ron on the farm and her time in Big Blue (tractor). She was a wonderful cook; the grandchildren loved her porcupine meatballs, and it was a treat to receive a jar of her lime pickles. Ila Mae worked for a short time in the grocery section of the Farmers Store, was a 4-H leader, and a member of the Busy Fingers Homemakers Group. She dedicated her life to the farm, her children, and the First Presbyterian Church, where you could always find her in the church basement kitchen. Ila Mae was the Hormann family historian keeping track of birthdays, wedding and anniversaries sending a great number of cards.
She was a nurturing mother, not only to their four children, but also to her siblings and their children as their mother Myrtle passed away in 1957. She was a champion rummy player who rarely lost a game. If you won, you earned bragging rights.
Ila Mae is survived by her husband of seventy years Ronald of Wheaton; her children: Wayne (Cathy) Hervey of Wheaton and their children: Gage (Ronnette) Hervey of Fargo, ND; and Kelly (Shaun) Levi (great-granddaughter Ziva) of West Fargo, ND; Carla Klug of Watertown, SD; and her son Travis Klug (Sharon) (Connor and Trinity Herman) of Thomas, SD; Rosemary (Bob) Rybka of Scottsdale, AZ; and Michael (Lorrie) Hervey of Wheaton; and their children Steven Hervey and Paul Hervey of Wheaton; sisters: Lois Wenker of Cannon Falls, MN; Rita Leppanen of Minneapolis, MN; Avis (Jerry) Grohs of Dumont, MN; and Ione Reynolds of Wheaton; sisters-in-law: Shirley Hormann of Wheaton; and Sue Hervey of Wheaton, Ill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ila Mae was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Myrtle Hormann; step-mother Ida Saterback; siblings: Roy, Jane Depew and Dale; brothers-in-law Kenny Wenker, George Leppanen, Jack Hervey and Oliver Depew.
