Irene Larson

Funeral Service for Irene Larson, 98, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, Minnesota with Rev. Jennifer Rose officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman, Minnesota. Lydia Irene Morrow was born on a farm in Traverse County, Minnesota on October 15, 1909, the daughter of Edward and Ida Mary (Graper) Morrow. She was raised on the Morrow farm where she attended rural school District #48. She and her two sisters stayed at a rooming house in Wheaton while they went to high school. Irene graduated in 1928 and went to West Side Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota where she started nurses training. Due to poor health she was unable to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse and spent the next 6 years in Tucson, Arizona where she worked as a nanny. In 1935, Irene was married to Alfred Larson in Norcross at the Lutheran Church. They were the only couple to be married in this church. Irene was an active member of Our Saviors until it was closed. After their marriage they lived in Norcross, then moved to the Morrow farm for five years. They bought the farm in Grant County and lived there until 1988 when they retired and moved into Herman. Irene was very proud of her role as a farmers wife. After Alfreds death, Irene eventually moved to the Pullman House-In the last year she has made several moves including stays at the Traverse Care Center and Prairie View in Wheaton. Irenes Irish heritage was very important to her. She made several trips to Ireland where she became aquainted with relatives who became life long friends. She and Alfred also traveled to Norway and New Zealand. Irene passed away November 23, 2007 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, Minnesota. Irene is survived by one daughter: Mary Lou (Charles) Shuckhart of Hawley, Minnesota, one son: Ronald Larson of Coeur de Alene, Idaho, one brother: John Morrow of Wheaton, Minnesota, Grandchildren: Noel (Kim) Shuckhart, Wendy (Tim) Olson, Kelly (Eric) Pierce, Jessie, Becky, Pamela & Nathan Larson, great-grandsons: Cody Shuckhart, Matthew Olson, Luke Olson & Kane Neuman, and several caring nieces & nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, & two sisters: Ida Kucera & Dorothy Richards.
