Funeral Service for James A. Lillehaug, age 80, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Pallbearers will be "Step-Grandchildren" Danielle Sagissor, Chastity Atkinson, George Sagissor IV, David Mueller, Matthew Sagissor, Miriam Mueller, Philip Sagissor, Jamie Marie Sagissor and Jana Sagissor. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Merton Dale American Legion Post #80. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wheaton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. James Alvin Lillehaug was born in Graceville, Minnesota on July 26, 1932 to parents William and Agnes (Goodhart) Lillehaug. He was baptized into the Lutheran Christian faith and confirmed that faith on March 30, 1947 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Graceville. Jim grew up in Graceville and attended school there. He served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from the Army on October 8, 1952. For his service Jim received the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and National Defense Service Medal. Jim was united in marriage to Florence M. Sagissor on June 6, 1957 in Milbank, South Dakota. The couple moved to Wheaton where they raised Florence's three sons, George III, James and Steven. Jim was employed by Johnson's International Harvester Implement, Larson's Implement and Jacobson's Transport. After these work experiences he opened and operated Jim's Eastside Garage on Highway 75 in Wheaton for many years. Jim also worked for a time at Minn-Dak Sugar Beet Plant in Wahpeton, North Dakota before finally retiring. Among his interests were hunting, fishing and camping. Jim was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, where he served as an usher, lector and was also on the Church Council. Jim was a longtime member of Merton-Dale American Legion Post #80 and the Wheaton VFW Post #5909. He could be seen marching in parades and serving in Honor Guards for other fallen veterans. Jim entered the Traverse Care Center on June 5, 2013 and was called to his eternal home in heaven on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the age of 80 years. James is survived by his wife Florence Lillehaug of Wheaton; three step-children: Rev. George (Julene) Sagissor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; James (Monica) Sagissor of Wheaton; and Steven (Amy Miller) Sagissor of Pinconning, Michigan; nine step-grandchildren: Danielle Sagissor of Avon, Minnesota; Chastity (Marty Patrick) Atkinson of Melrose, Minnesota; Jamie Marie Sagissor of Orlando, Florida; George Sagissor IV of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Matthew (Emily) Sagissor of Moorhead, Minnesota; Miriam (David) Mueller of Isle, Minnesota; Philip (Chelsea) Sagissor of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota; Tina (Steven) Lundquist of Wheaton; and Jana (Dustin Peyton) Sagissor of Wheaton; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. James was preceded in death by his parents William and Agnes (Goodhart) Lillehaug; brothers Walter and Paul, and sisters: Emily, Alvina and Grace.
