Jane Nicklay (Jorschumb) 70, died at home on Sunday, November 8, 2015 after a good fight with ovarian cancer. She was born July 14, 1945 in Minot ND, while her father was serving in Europe during WWII, to Arthur and Elaine (Hilleren) Jorschumb. Upon her father's return from the military, she lived on a farm near Wheaton MN, graduating as salutatorian of Wheaton high school class of 1963. She then attended Morehead State University, class of 1966, with a teaching degree in mathematics and physics. Later she earned a masters equivalency in Educational Administration from the University of MN. She taught one year in Brainerd MN and then moved to Rochester MN in 1967 to spend her teaching career with the Rochester public school system, teaching 8th grade math at Kellogg and John Adams middle schools, until her retirement in 1999. She then got her insurance license and worked with her husband for 2 years. She was an avid bowler until developing back problems then turned her fun time to playing golf. After retirement she devoted her time to volunteer work for many nonprofit organizations. She was a 26 year member of the Rochester Charter Chapter of ABWA, (American Business Women's Association), holding various leadership roles through the years. She was the membership/financial secretary for Our Saviors Lutheran church for 15 years. She was co-coordinator with her husband for IHN, (Interfaith Hospitality Network/Family Promise Rochester), at Our Saviors since its inception in Rochester in 2000. She spent many hours promoting the Fair Trade Market at church and many other places. She was an avid crossword, or any numbers/puzzles player her entire life. Tending her flower gardens was another passion. Before cancer took its toll she spent several years seeing the beauty of America in their RV. She married Donald Hess in 1973 and later divorced. She married Richard Cecil in 1984 and became stepmother to Melissa and Jenny. They were later divorced. In 1992 she married William Nicklay and got to be "grandma Jane" to Chaz Nicklay of Montana, Courtney Nicklay of Idaho, Austin Nicklay Rochester MN (currently on active duty in the Army National Guard), Trisha Nicklay of Rochester MN and Ryan and Rowan Nicklay of MS. She is survived by her mother, Elaine Jorschumb of Wheaton MN, 3 brothers: Allen Jorschumb (Sandy Rosenkranz), Dan Jorschumb both of Wheaton MN and Dean Jorschumb (Deana Linscott) of Redwood Falls MN, 3 stepchildren: James Nicklay (Jessie) of Hernando MS, Chris Nicklay of Randolph KS and Elizabeth Klicker-Nicklay of Chicago IL, her 6 step grandchildren, 6 brother-in-laws: Tim Nicklay (Deb) of Owatonna MN, Mike (Linda) Nicklay of Oakdale MN, Bob (Shelly) Nicklay of Eagan MN, Rich Nicklay of Okaboji IA, Dennis (Terry) Nicklay of Scarborough ME and Phillip (Barb) Nicklay of Viola MN: 3 sister-in-laws Kathy (Ev) Eide of Winona MN, Florence (Paul) Hamernick of Winona MN and Patty (Larry) Putzier of Dover MN, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, November 13, 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 2124 Viola Rd. NE, Rochester with Rev. Ben Loven officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday, November 12, 2015 and one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 pm Friday after the visitation. An additional memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Bainbridge Funeral Home, 106 10th St. N, Wheaton, MN 56296. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
