Joanne Smith, age 82, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Fr. Joe Vandeberg Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with special music provided by Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir. Honorary urn bearers will be Ron Schoephoerster, George Sawyer, Kenny Amann, Carol Sailer, Tracey Raguse and Bill and Marvel Buchholz. Visitation will be held Friday morning starting at 10:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo, Minnesota. Joanne Iverson was born September 16, 1932 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Elmer and Elida (Hendrickson) Iverson. She married Russell Smith on April 14, 1953. The couple enjoyed a wonderful 62 years of marriage. Joanne was a member of the Ave Maria Catholic Church Ladies Guild, Wheaton Womens Study Club, the Wheaton Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and together with her husband drove members of the community to Fargo for their treatments, for the American Cancer Society. The couple also delivered Meals on Wheels to community members for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge; golfing, loved to travel with her husband and thoroughly enjoyed music. She had a gift of organization and genuine interest of others. Joanne is survived by her husband Russell Smith of Wheaton; one daughter Kim (Dennis) Vagt of Valley Springs, California; one son Terry Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother-in-law Jerry (Carla) Smith of Willmar, Minnesota; and sister-in-law Janice Eddy of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Joanne was preceded in death by a son Todd Smith, and her parents Elmer T. Iverson and Elida M. Hendrickson.
