Funeral Service for John Raymond Bruns, age 91, of the Wheaton and Herman area will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Anthony Ahrendt officiating. Organist will be Sara Lee Rinke. Pallbearers will be Johns nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. time of sharing at the Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton. John was born September 7, 1920 in Grant County, Minnesota to Ohle and Margaret (Itzen) Bruns. John was baptized, confirmed and attended church at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman before moving to Wheaton and attending St. John Lutheran Church. John attended school until the 10th grade at which time he started farming with his father. He was united in marriage to Garnette Groneberg on October 27, 1941. To this union two sons were born, Kenneth and Edward. The couple farmed in the Herman and Wheaton area until Johns retirement. In 1977, he helped start the Bruns Equipment and Farm Implement in Wadena, Minnesota with his son Edward, which he enjoyed doing even while he was in the Rosholt Nursing Home until 2007. John and Garnette loved horses and especially raising Arabian horses. They enjoyed horse shows and won many ribbons and trophies. The couple also opened their house up to many friends and relatives, always welcoming people to coffee, cookies and meals. John enjoyed visiting and playing cards with family and friends. Johns hobbies included horse shows, playing cards, fishing, hunting and going south to Arizona for winters. This last fall, John and Garnette celebrated their 70th year of marriage together with a celebration at the Traverse Care Center. John passed away Saturday morning, February 18, 2012 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. John is survived by his beloved wife Garnette of Wheaton, two sons Kenneth (Candice) Bruns of Rapid City, South Dakota and Edward Bruns of Sebeka, Minnesota, two grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Keddy of Beach Park, Illinois and Jason (special friend Heather Jacquart) of Sebeka, Minnesota, one brother Folkert Bruns of Herman, Minnesota, and five great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Schultz.
