John Swedlund

John Swedlund, age 82, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Grace Home in Graceville, Minnesota.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 19th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service at the Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton. Visitation will continue Saturday from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be in West Lakeside Cemetery, rural Wheaton at a later date. Pallbearers will be Craig Fridgen, Mike Peyton, Pat Peyton, Lyle Lupkes, Derrick Swedlund, Steve Kemp and Gordon Krumwiede. Honorary Pallbearers will be John’s grandchildren: Michael Klugman, Tyler (Alyssa) Klugman, Hayden and Harper Klugman, Tori (Chase) Kohler, Cooper Kohler, John (Claire) Cook, Capri and Quinn Cook, Anthony (Emma) Cook, and August “Auggie” Cook.

John Herbert Swedlund was born December 20, 1940 in Wheaton, Minnesota to Herbert and Dagmar (Swanson) Swedlund. John learned a hard work ethic at the early age of twelve; He spent his early life farming and custom combining. He attended country school in rural Wheaton completing the eighth grade.

John was very mechanically inclined. He would rebuild broken vehicles, often making one car out of two. He rebuilt motors, semis and tractors. He could do anything he set his mind to. He was a man of many talents.

John was united in marriage to Connie Johnson on November 5, 1960 at the Mission Covenant Church in Wheaton. The Reverend H.R. Jacobson officiated at the double ring ceremony. To this union two daughters were born: Debra and Diedra.

John farmed until the early 1980’s. He was the owner and operator of Swedlund Trucking from the early 1980’s until the early 1990’s. He hauled beets for Min-Dak and hauled grain for the Wheaton Dumont Elevator until his retirement.

John enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing with his friends, brother Danny and grandkids.

John is survived by his wife Connie Swedlund of Rosholt, SD; two daughters: Debra Cook of Rosholt, SD; and Diedra (Scott) Klugman of Wheaton; grandchildren: John (Claire) Cook of Chandler, AZ; Anthony (Emma) Cook of Minot, ND: Michael Klugman of Morris, IL; Tyler (Alyssa) Klugman of Wheaton; and Tori (Chase) Kohler of Lake Park, MN; great-grandchildren: Capri, Quinn, Auggie, Harper, Hayden and Cooper; brother Danny (Wendy) Swedlund of Breckenridge, MN; brother-in-law Dennis Groneberg of Wheaton; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sandra Groneberg; and grandson Christopher Cook.
