Funeral Service for Kenneth I. Nelson, 83, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating. Organist will be Cheryl Shekleton with special music provided by John Nerenz. Pallbearers will be Dwight Nelson, Ron Kastner, Curtis Nelson, Darin Nelson, Michael Kastner and Zachary Nelson. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26th from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. The Ranney Funeral Home of Wheaton, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth Irving Nelson was born April 30, 1928 to David and Ida (Johnson) Nelson at Wheaton, Minnesota. The family lived several miles east of Wheaton. He attended rural school through the eighth grade and finished his education graduating from Wheaton High School with the class of 1946. Kenneth worked as manager of Traverse Co-op Oil for nearly 38 years until his retirement in 1987. He served on the corporate boards of directors of Midland Cooperatives and Land O Lakes from 1967 to 1983. He was very involved in the Jaycees when that organization was active in Wheaton. Kenneth was also on the City Council for 10 years. During those years, the airport was greatly improved and the hospital also saw marked improvements. He was always very involved in his church, Bethlehem Covenant, holding offices and singing in the choir. Kenneth and Marian Dalin Moerer were married June 24, 1967. At this time also, he became a very devoted father to a daughter, Brenda, a son, Kim, and Jean Christina was born to this union. Kenneth passed away May 23, 2011 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Fargo, North Dakota. Kenneth leaves mourn his passing his wife, Marian Nelson of Wheaton, Minnesota, three children: Kim (Deanna) Moerer of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Brenda (Ron) Kastner of Burlington, Iowa and Jean Nelson of Fargo, North Dakota, two grandchildren: Ami Sansone and Michael Kastner, and three great-grandchildren: Hayley Sansone, Andrew Sansone and Max Kastner.
