LaVerne Brown

Funeral services for LaVerne Marie Engeldorf Brown will be held at 11:00 AM on December 3, 2010 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton, MN. Pastor Tom Olson officiated. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton. LaVerne passed away November 28, 2010 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. She was 94 years old. LaVerne was born June 30, 1916 in Lake Valley Township, Traverse County, Minnesota. She was the youngest of seven children of Adolph and Minnie Niesche. She received her education at Monson Township, a one room school house, to the eighth grade. She married Eldon Engeldorf in 1937 and they had three boys together, Robert, Barry, and Stanley. Eldon passed away in 1976. LaVerne worked as a Health Care Provider at the Wheaton Hospital for over 20 years. She was dedicated and loved her job, especially working in the Nursery. Over the years many people have mentioned what great care she provided and even in her later years she would attempt to care for others when she could not care for herself. She was devoted to caring for her three sons, working double shifts and holidays. Her work ethic was passed onto her sons. In later years she married Ervin Brown and they worked and lived in Wheaton. They managed the Key Row apartments for several years and than retired to their home in Wheaton. She and Ervin lived together at Prairie View. When Ervin passed away in 2005 she stayed on at Prairie View. Two years after Ervin passed she moved into Countryside Assistant Living in Rosholt, SD and was currently residing at the Rosholt Care Center. She passed away peacefully at Sanford University Hospital, Pallative care unit, in Fargo, ND from post hip surgery complications with her family at her side. LaVerne is survived by her sons: Barry and wife Bernadine (Bunny) of Mapelwood, Minnesota and Stanley and wife, Dorothea of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, daughter-in-law Shirley Engeldorf of Alexandria, Minnesota, grandsons, Bradley and Blake Engeldorf, grand-daughters Kristin and husband Peter Soupir and Vikki and husband Darren Grass, three great-grandson's and one great-grand-daughter and several nieces and nephews. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Bill, Edward, Fred and Henry and two sisters, Anna Nelk and Minetta Barry. She was also preceded by husbands Eldon (Tam) Engeldorf, and Ervin Brown, son Robert and grandson, Scott. In closing, she loved her family and she loved Wheaton, MN. You could take her on a trip for a few days but it wouldn't be long and she would want to return to her home base. You could take the girl out of Wheaton but you could not take Wheaton out of the girl.
