Lois Bernice Groneberg was born October 2nd, 1928 to Ernest and Wanda (Beyer) Groneberg at Graceville, MN and she was baptized later as an infant. Early in her life her family moved onto a farm west of Norcross, where she finished her education through the 8th grade. Lois was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on July 18th, 1943. A courtship between Ralph Fickes and Lois began after meeting at Harvey and Adeline Fickes wedding. They were wed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman, MN on December 10th, 1950. They lived their entire married life on a farm in, Logan Township, west of Herman where Lois devoted her life to Ralph and their three children. Some of Lois many activities included helping with the farm work, gardening, raising chickens, sewing, card playing, fishing, carrying lunches out to the field, and of course cooking meals, where she was always ready to serve any company. Everyone who knew Lois will miss her quick wit, sense of humor, and her practical joking. She was involved in various groups such as LWML, Red Hat Society, Lois Club, Bible studies, and several card clubs. For many years she spent her winters enjoying the Arizona sun with family and friends; after retiring from the farm she came to live at the Pullman House in Herman, always making new friends wherever she went. But above all, her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After a very short battle with cancer she went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 9th, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Hoffman, MN where she recently celebrated her 84th birthday. Lois is survived by three children: Delbert (Lynn) Fickes of Herman, Minnesota; Karen (Loren) Kamrath of Frazee, Minnesota and Darlene (Bill) Volker of Herman, Minnesota; Siblings: Garnette Bruns of Wheaton, Minnesota; Erwin (Helen) Groneberg of Hoffman, Minnesota; Dennis (Sandra) Groneberg of Wheaton; Dave Groneberg of Mayer, Arizona and Wanda (David) Bean of Hewitt, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: Chris (Niki) Fickes, Angelene (John) Winges, Shane (Kristi) Fickes, Shannon (Dennis) Zimmerman; Scott (Angie) Kamrath, Kristine (Jess) Bugbee; Brent (Rachel) Volker, Travis (Brittney) Volker and Jaylene (Stephen) Lacey, seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Edna Mae Groneberg and Virginia Fickes and two brothers-in-law: Raymond (Kathleen) Fickes and Gordon (Mary) Fickes.
