Loren was born in Williams, Minnesota on September 11, 1928, the son of Edward Gordon and Effie Isabelle (LaValla) Lennox. He was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church shortly thereafter. Loren lost his mother at the tender age of two and was raised by his father in the Lake of Woods area of Minnesota with his three older brothers: Glenn, Cal and Keith. Loren was also a half-brother to Viola, Gladys, Leon and Kenny Inman.
Loren grew up at a time when our nation was emerging from the great depression and beginning to prepare itself for war. This led him to follow his father to the Pacific Northwest where he spent time working in the shipyards. Sometime during this period in his life Loren's foot was run over by a boxcar, which rendered him ineligible to serve in the armed forces.
During those years he also became involved in amateur boxing. Loren was part of the 1949 British Columbia Golden Champs boxing tournament in Seattle and also the Associate Boys Club in Seattle where he boxed under the name "Larry Lennox."
Loren eventually made his way back to Minnesota, and on October 13, 1951 he married Lois Evalena Brown. The sixty-five years of their life together was blessed with nine children, thirty grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.
In their early married years Loren was a lumberjack in northern Minnesota and a grain buyer in North Dakota. In 1960 he and his family moved to Herman, Minnesota where Loren was employed by Herman Market Company. He later worked at a grain elevator in Charlesville, MN and was Manager at the grain elevator in Norcross, Minnesota. Loren will be remembered as a skilled tree trimmer and a longtime member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Herman.
Loren enjoyed deer hunting with his father-in-law and brothers-in-law during his younger years of marriage, and with his sons, sons-in-law and grandsons during his later years. Loren enjoyed playing cards, watching the Twins, classic Western movies, walking on his hands for the amusement of his children and an occasional attempt to defy the laws of chance at Native American establishments.
Loren is survived by his wife Lois of Norcross, MN; children: Sue (the late Gary) Wilke of St. Cloud, MN, Gloria (Gary) Ristow of Norcross, MN, Lorna (Joel) Leyrer of Wauwatosa, WI, Jake (Jan) Lennox of Jordan, MN, Patricia (Roger) Moen of Fargo, ND, Steve (Jean) Lennox of Herman, MN, Schelly (Stephen) Cifone of Mesa, AZ, Angela (Todd) Lampert of Niceville, FL, and Gordon (Leslie) Lennox of Elk River, MN; thirty grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren.
Loren was preceded in death by his son-in-law Gary Wilke; grandson Derek Lennox; and three brothers: Glenn, Keith and Calvin Lennox.
We are saddened at his departure from us, but we rejoice at his entrance into heaven. Thanks be to Jesus Christ, our Lord.
