Lorise Velma Eggen was born June 11, 1927 in Timber Lake, SD to Carl and Carrie (Hollander) Eggen. When Lorise was eleven, her and her sister moved to Victor, South Dakota to live with grandma and grandpa Eggen, and her parents moved shortly after that. Lorise attended High School in Fairmount, North Dakota graduating in 1946 with one of the largest classes (63 graduates). She moved to Wheaton following graduation and lived and worked at Mrs. Smith’s Boarding House. She also worked at the Wheaton Hatchery and Ben Franklin.

Lorise was united in marriage to Loren Siegel on December 22, 1947. The couple resided on a farm near White Rock, South Dakota before moving into Wheaton. Lorise did housekeeping for families in Wheaton and also did custom sewing. Lorise also stayed busy as a housewife raising their seven children. Lorise was an excellent cook and baker making fresh bread every week. She was a wonderful host, and no one ever left her home hungry.

She enjoyed embroidery, needlework and crocheting. Nearly all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have homemade gifts from grandma Lorise. Lorise volunteered at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, hairdressing for the residents. She was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and was very active in the Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, serving numerous roles including Deacon. She was awarded by the church for her work in sending pencils, crayons, and blankets to countries in need. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends and playing cards and board games, especially BUNCO.

Lorise entered the Traverse Care Center in 2019 and resided there until her death on her 94th birthday.
