Lucille Hammarsten, age 87, of Browns Valley, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Browns Valley Health Center in Browns Valley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Fr. John Paul Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Sanasack with music provided by the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir.
Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, rural Wheaton. Pallbearers will be Kyle Asplund, Daniel Hammarsten, Nathan Hammarsten, Brian Hammarsten, Trevor Sellden and Alex Toribio. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lucille's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton.
Lucille Frances Serocki was born July 29, 1928 in Browns Valley, Minnesota to Francis and Carolyn (Piechowski) Serocki. She attended school in Beardsley, Minnesota graduating in 1946. She was united in marriage to Elmer Hammarsten on June 7, 1949 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. The couple farmed south of Browns Valley from 1954 until 1969 when they moved to Tintah, Minnesota. They lived there until 1972 when they moved to Wheaton where they owned and operated Hammarsten Mobil Gas Station. Elmer passed away in August of 1998.
Lucille continued living at her home in Wheaton until 2001 when she moved into assisted living in Wheaton. In September of 2003 Lucille entered the Browns Valley Health Care Center where she lived until her death.
Lucille enjoyed gardening and flowers. She enjoyed playing cards, especially whist. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Her family meant everything to her. She spent lots of time with her sisters and brothers even as an adult.
Lucille was very faithful to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton.
Lucille is survived by five children: Dale (Sandy) Hammarsten of Ashley, North Dakota; Dave (Barb) Hammarsten of Sun City, Arizona; Judy (Mike) Sellden of Fargo, North Dakota; Muriel (Don) Asplund of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and Frank (Sue) Hammarsten of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one sister Theresa Meyer of Fargo, North Dakota and one brother Jim (Marion) Serocki of Thorpe, Wisconsin.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; parents Francis and Carolyn (Piechowski) Serocki; son Anthony "Tony"; brothers: Stan, Larry, Gene, Ray, and Paul Serocki; and sisters Dorothy Heck and Mary Palmer.
Lucille will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
