Mabel Neumann of Wheaton passed away Friday afternoon, September 10, 2010 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Mabel was 94 years old. Funeral Services for Mabel Neumann will be held Monday, September 13th, at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Rev. Charles Horkey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mabels nieces and nephews. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Wheaton. Mabel Margaret Neumann was born June 4, 1916 in Monson Township, Traverse County, Minnesota. She was the oldest of seven children born to Frederick Carl Neumann and Paulina Waeffler. She received her education in District 54, a one room country school. After graduating from the 8th grade, she was a housekeeper around the Wheaton area until 1941, when she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to continue to do housekeeping until 1993. Mabel was very active throughout her life with the Hope Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. She taught Sunday School for 32 years and helped with founding of the Altar Guild there some 55 years ago. Over the years at Hope Lutheran Church Mabel helped organize hundreds of church dinners, luncheons and receptions. Mabel loved the Milwaukee Ballet and the Milwaukee Symphony and was an avid baseball fan. After breaking her hip in 2004, Mabel became a resident of the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. Mabel is survived by three sisters: Arline Young of Fort Collins, CO, Doris Rixe and Lucile Eggers, both of Wheaton, many nieces and nephews. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents: Fred C. and Paulina Neumann, two brothers, Ivan and Marvin Neumann, and one sister, Florence Kassahn.
